Cleveland Book Buying Trip & Asimov's Counterparts

I had a great time going to Cleveland to both see a couple of Red Sox games (which the Sox won) and also to catch the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Book buying was of course on the schedule and I visited a number of books stores. Mac's, Loganberry's and the Scriptorium are the main ones that I found.

Mac's had a great sci-fi section, not as good as mine of course, but I did find quite a few authors that I did not have: Morris Hershman, Astron Del Martia, L.P. Davies, Quinne Reade and Con Sellers to name a few.

At Loganberry's, I got to meet Otis, who is their version of Asimov. He talked and played just the same, and it was cool to be on the customer end of that.

I found some of the Hyperioir Press reprints of the Titles in Classics of Science Fiction Series. Including 4 titles by William Hope Hodgson, "The Boats of the Glen Carrig", "The House on the Borderland," "The Nightland," and "The Ghost Pirates." Also "A Plunge Into Space" by Robert Cromie with an introduction by Jules Verne.

"Who Goes There? Seven Tales of Science Fiction by John W. Campbell Jr., and "Distant Worlds" by Freidrich Mader illustrated by Robert A Graef.

The Scriptorium, was in the basement of an old church, and was your typical search for a book used bookstore, no rhyme nor reason. Mainly a lot of socialist, anarchist type books but I did manage to find "Flow My Tears the Policeman Said" by PKD and a Jack Vance Ace Double as well as a smattering of Conan books.

He had a friendly cat there too, though older and not as playful as Asimov and Otis.

All in all it was a great trip and I hope to do it again. If you're a Sox fan and have never been to Cleveland, I'd recommend it. The games have entertainment between innings that are good for a few laughs and some of the vendors are a show in themselves.
